Ingersoll Rand Sustainability Institute Students Visit LEED-Certified Facility


Davidson, N.C., July 13, 2010 ... Today, students in the Ingersoll Rand Sustainability Institute will be introduced to how sustainability practices are transformed into real-world applications at a local LEED-certified facility.

Students will explore the topic of sustainable building environments with Natasha Herting, project coordinator of Optima Engineering’s Energy Division. Optima Engineering is a consulting firm that specialize in carbon neutral building environments.

Students will tour the office of Optima Engineering, which has achieved the highest level of LEED certification and features rooftop solar panels, rapidly renewable building materials, electric daylight sensors and a highly efficient HVAC system.
    
This hands-on learning opportunity is a part of the second annual Ingersoll Rand Sustainability Institute, an interactive program designed to teach students about the triple bottom line of social, economic and environmental responsibility.

About Optima Engineering’s LEED-Certified Facility
Optima Engineering, P.A. earned LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its South End office. The LEED Platinum certification is the highest rating available, and Optima Engineering was the first to achieve this certification in the Charlotte area. In addition to meeting LEED standards, Optima Engineering’s 16,000-square-foot office building features a rooftop solar photovoltaic system.
