Frank Abagnale to Speak at Hood Hargett Breakfast Club
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 2, 2010 … Frank Abagnale, reformed con artist and the world’s foremost authority on fraud and identity theft, will be the featured speaker at the next Hood Hargett Breakfast Club meeting. The networking group will meet Friday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 a.m. at Carmel Country Club.
Abagnale’s book – “Catch Me if You Can” – is the true story of his youth spent as a confidence man. The story was also made into a feature film directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.
Between the ages of 16 and 21, Abagnale successfully posed as an airline pilot, an attorney, a college professor and a pediatrician. He also cashed $2.5 million in fraudulent checks in every state and 26 foreign countries.
Apprehended by the French police when he was 21, Abagnale served time in the French, Swedish and U.S. prison systems. After five years, he was released on the condition that he would help the federal government, without remuneration, by teaching and assisting federal law enforcement agencies. He has been associated with the FBI for more than 30 years.
“Frank is going to be an exciting speaker,” said Jenn Snyder, executive director of Hood Hargett Breakfast Club. “He has a fascinating story, and we expect a memorable presentation and huge turnout.”

At each monthly event, a local student athlete is awarded a $1,000 scholarship as part of the Liz Murray Scholarship Fund. To date, the Breakfast Club has awarded more than $180,000 to more than 150 local high school students.
