Crescent Communities on Lake James Gives $10,000 for New Nebo Fire Station

Lake James, N.C., Dec. 5, 2007 … Crescent Communities on Lake James donated $10,000 to the Nebo Fire Department for a state-of-the-art station.

Site work began in 2006 at the Highway 126 location, and construction on the 15,000-square-foot fire station is scheduled to begin in spring 2008. Nebo’s volunteer department serves Crescent’s Old Wildlife Club community, which opened in August 2006.

“We want to make sure the Nebo Fire Department has what it needs to continue protecting Old Wildlife Club and the community at large,” said Andy Ferrell, project manager for Crescent Communities on Lake James.

The Nebo Fire Department – one of the oldest rural volunteer fire departments in western North Carolina – plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary in its new building next year. The department has been in its current location since 1976.

“We have outgrown our station, and this new facility will help us meet the needs of residents in our area for years to come,” said Fire Chief Richard Simmons.

The fire station will also serve as a base for McDowell County’s Emergency Medical Services.

Crescent’s other communities on Lake James include 1780 and Black Forest.
