Charlotte, N.C., Oct. 14, 2008 – Chapel Cove, Crescent Communities’ new Lake Wylie community, will be the site of Charlotte magazine’s 2008 Dream Home. Vicki Payne and Sloan Payne-Rutter, mother-and-daughter hosts of the popular PBS do-it-yourself show For Your Home, are decorating the Dream Home in the theme of “Creativity and Activity.”
“We didn’t want to go with your typical magazine look,” Vicki Payne said. “We wanted this home to look like a family lives there. That’s how we pulled the Creativity and Activity theme through the home. It’s designed to showcase your family’s interests.”
The 2008 Dream Home will be open for tours Nov. 20 through Dec. 14 and benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Emphasizing the Creativity and Activity theme is a tone of casual elegance both inside and outside the home. Comfortable seating will highlight the outdoor living space of the covered porch. While inside, the open and welcoming family room will boast durable fabrics that are casual, but still great for entertaining. Payne will also unveil her new fabric line at the Dream Home. The new patterns and fabrics are designed with bold colors and horizontal stripes.
The children’s bedrooms are designed more with older children in mind. The boy’s bedroom will have an active theme, featuring sports and study areas and making the most of the room’s unique nooks and crannies. Warm, earth-tone colors will give the room “outdoor spirit,” according to Payne.
“The colors will make you feel like you’re not trapped inside, but rather you have the outdoors with you,” said Payne.
As for the girl’s bedroom, it will display bright colors to give the appearance of a crafts room. With the popular TV show Project Runway as inspiration, this room will be adorned with a sewing station and bulletin and drawing boards for fashion designs.
The Dream Home will also incorporate a green initiative by containing environmentally friendly wood finishes, glass, fabrics and accessories made out of recycled materials. For Your Home is scheduled to film thirteen episodes at the Dream Home, informing viewers of just what it takes to create a show house. All the drama, laughs and challenges will be shared plus great ideas that viewers can incorporate into their own Dream Homes.
E.S. Johnson Builders, LLC, a member of the community’s Builder Guild, built this year’s Dream Home. Reflecting the timeless style of an English cottage with Tudor-inspired details, the Dream Home features more than 4,700 square feet of living space – including four bedrooms, three full baths, two half baths and a bonus room. Ample outdoor entertaining areas include the screened and covered porches, as well as the patio with a fireplace.
Chapel Cove will feature 250 homes on 291 acres, with some waterfront homes available. Green-building techniques and environmentally sensitive development practices are encouraged at Chapel Cove, where architecture will range from French Country to Craftsman styles. Chapel Cove residents will enjoy the future 5-acre Wildwood Park, planned to include a Family Activities Center, tennis courts, junior Olympic pool, sport court and playground. Chapel Cove is located off Shopton Road West and is across the street from the Sanctuary – Crescent’s unparalleled lakefront community that inspired Chapel Cove.
