Community Health Services Opens Affordable Clinic in Uptown Charlotte


Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 22, 2009 … Community Health Services has opened a low-cost clinic for non-emergency cases to serve uninsured and underinsured patients in Mecklenburg County.

The clinic is at 601 East 5th St. in uptown Charlotte. Patients receive basic health care services, including chronic disease management, on-site lab work and physicals for pre-employment and school purposes, at reduced costs.

“This is an important medical service for people without access to affordable health care,” said Jen Algire, executive director of Community Health Services. “With its convenient location and variety of services, we expect this clinic to help thousands of people in our community.”

The clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Walk-ins are accepted. To make an appointment, call (704) 375-0172. Free parking is available in the adjacent lot.

Community Health Services is a non-profit organization that provides affordable, accessible and high-quality preventative health care for people who are uninsured, underinsured or lack access to services. Since 1955, the agency has been providing preventive health care in Charlotte for children and adults with limited means. Today, the agency serves 10,000 clients annually. Community Health Services’ mission is to empower individuals with limited resources to establish and maintain good health.
