Inspirational Teacher Tierney Cahill to Speak at Hood Hargett Breakfast Club

CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 4, 2010 … The inspirational Tierney Cahill, a former Congressional candidate and Nevada school teacher, will be the featured speaker at the next meeting of Hood Hargett Breakfast Club, Charlotte’s premier networking organization. The event will be at Carmel Country Club March 12 at 7:30 a.m.

Cahill ran for Congress, with little campaign funding, against an incumbent lawmaker to prove to her sixth grade students that any American can make a legitimate run for office. Although she lost the election, she won a respectable percentage of the vote and taught her students the value of civic duty.

Cahill’s story inspired an upcoming movie starring Halle Berry titled Class Act, and it was featured in the nationally published book “Teachers: The Enlightened, the Exceptional, the Extraordinary.”

“Tierney has such an inspirational story,” said Jenn Snyder, executive director of Hood Hargett Breakfast Club. “She is proof that one person can change the lives of many, and we can’t wait to hear her speak.”

More than 40 local and regional businesses are members of Hood Hargett Breakfast Club. The monthly breakfast events provide an opportunity for members to network with each other and entertain clients and prospective clients. More information about attending this and other Breakfast Club events can be found at www.hoodhargettbreakfastclub.com.

At each breakfast event, a local student athlete is awarded a $1,000 scholarship as part of the Liz Murray Scholarship Fund. Hood Hargett Breakfast Club has awarded more than $180,000 to more than 150 local high school students.
